Tour Overview
Enjoy a six-night flying finest the Kenya safari visiting two truly outstanding safari gems, the Mugie Conservancy in the Laikipia region and the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve.
The Mugie Conservancy is a private wildlife conservancy in Laikipia of almost 50’000 acres hosting an array of impactful community and conservation programs. It offers a natural and pristine wilderness experience off the beaten track. The wildlife densities rank second to the Masai Mara, and more endangered species can be seen here than elsewhere in East Africa. Laikipia is regarded as the gateway to Kenya’s wild northern frontier district.
The Masai Mara National Reserve. Set in the heart of Africa’s Great Plains in Kenya, the Masai Mara boasts 1,672 sq. kilometres of unspoilt wilderness. It offers the best game and bird-viewing not only in Kenya but anywhere in Africa. The Masai Mara is a place of natural drama, a kaleidoscope of colour and life.
Staying at Governors’ Mugie House, set on a private conservancy, will offer myriad activities to explore and enjoy its vast open landscapes and abundant wildlife. Perched on a hill are eight stone cottages, each with sweeping views of the Laikipia landscape. An infinity pool offers lovely, shaded areas and a casual alfresco dining area.
Three nights at Governors’ Camp puts you right in the heart of the action, closer than anyone else to its incredible sights and sounds. Nestled in the riverine forest along the winding banks of the Mara River, its waters teeming with bird life, hippos and crocodile.

Tour Itinerary
Day by Day
Day 1
Arrival Day: Nairobi to Mugie Conservancy, Laikipia
When you arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met and driven to Wilson Airport for your flight straight to Mugie Conservancy, landing in the heart of Kenya’s Laikipia highlands. There is a short car transfer of about 20 minutes to Governors’ Mugie House, where a delicious lunch will be waiting.
Depending on what you feel like doing, you can either head out on your first-afternoon game drive and explore this pristine wilderness, abundant with wildlife, lay by the pool or enjoy a siesta. Then, enjoy pre-dinner drinks around a fire, dinner and overnight at Mugie.
Day 2-3
On Safari - Mugie Conservancy, Laikipia
Mugie Conservancy offers myriad activities to enjoy the natural landscape and abundant wildlife, from traditional game drives to bush walks, bush meals and fishing on the Mugie Dam. The Conservancy also operates as a low-impact cattle ranch and catalyst for community conservation initiatives. Enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at the conservation activities, including the anti-poaching unit with the team of bloodhound sniffer dogs.
Head out with one of our team to track down the Big Cats and understand the work to prevent human-wildlife conflict. If you’re lucky, you might meet Tala, the friendly resident Reticulated giraffe who wanders freely about the conservancy. Finally, end each day with a spectacular sundowner from one of many vantage points around the conservancy.
Day 4
Mugie Conservancy to the Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, depart from Governors’ Mugie House, flying directly from Mugie Conservancy to the Masai Mara Game Reserve. You will be met on arrival and transferred to your accommodation at Governors’ Camp. It’s a short game drive en route to the camp before an al fresco lunch overlooking the Mara River. Embark on a thrilling afternoon game drive at around 3:30 pm and return at dusk for drinks and chatter around the campfire before dinner. Finally, fall asleep to the night-time chorus of the Masai Mara!
Masai Mara offers such wide-ranging and abundant wildlife that it is difficult to comprehend. Over 450 species of animals have been recorded, including lions, rhinos, hippos, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, hyenas, wild dogs, buffalo, leopards, many kinds of antelopes and elephants.
In the Mara, the most spectacular natural world event happens, ‘‘The Great Annual Migration,” of millions of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti (in Tanzania) in search of water and pasture. Following their heels are the savannah predators: lion, cheetah, wild dog, jackal, hyena and vulture.
Day 5-6
On Safari - Masai Mara National Reserve
Arise early each morning to make the most of your spectacular location. Each day will offer you the option of three game drives within the Mara National Reserve, immersing yourself in this rich wildlife destination. Then, depending on what you feel like, we have a range of activities to keep you occupied on either side of game viewing; Masai village cultural visits, walking safaris, visits to some of our responsible tourism community initiatives located nearby – or – you can sit, take a siesta or book yourself in for some of our safari spa treatments.
For a memorable experience, enjoy a surreal journey over the Masai Mara plains in a hot air balloon. This adventure begins just before dawn; depart the camp at 05h15 to the Balloon Safaris take-off site. The excellent sunrise flight lasts approximately one hour, depending on weather conditions. On landing, sit down to a delicious bush breakfast, freshly cooked on balloon burners in the middle of the Mara plains. Toast your return to Mother Earth with your pilot over a glass of sparkling wine. Then, the game drives back to your camp.
Day 7
Masai Mara National Reserve to Nairobi
Enjoy a final early morning game drive, followed by breakfast in camp before heading to the airstrip in time for your flight back to Wilson Airport in Nairobi.
