Saadani National Park offers one of Tanzania’s most distinctive wildlife experiences, where savannah, river and coastline come together in a single protected ecosystem. Expect elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles and a wide variety of antelope, while the Wami River supports excellent boat safaris with close wildlife encounters. The combination of game drives, river excursions and Indian Ocean scenery makes Saadani unlike any other national park in East Africa.
Saadani National Park is the only national park in East Africa where wildlife roams directly onto the Indian Ocean shoreline. Its landscapes range from golden beaches and coastal forests to acacia savannahs, mangrove wetlands, palm-lined riverbanks and the wildlife-rich Wami River. This remarkable blend of bush, river and beach creates one of Tanzania’s most scenic and photogenic safari destinations.
Saadani National Park offers a unique blend of safari experiences found nowhere else in Tanzania. Explore the park on traditional game drives, enjoy wildlife-rich boat safaris along the Wami River, discover over 400 bird species, walk with an armed ranger, relax on the Indian Ocean shoreline and, in season, witness green turtles nesting on Saadani’s protected beaches. The combination of bush, river and beach makes every visit truly unforgettable.
Saadani National Park enjoys a warm tropical coastal climate year-round, with average temperatures ranging from 25°C to 32°C (77°F–90°F). The dry season offers excellent wildlife viewing, while the green season transforms the park into a lush landscape, making it ideal for birdwatching, photography and scenic boat safaris along the Wami River.
Saadani National Park can be visited year-round, but the dry season from June to October is widely regarded as the best time for wildlife viewing. Animals gather around permanent water sources, vegetation is less dense, and game drives become more rewarding. The green season (November to May) offers beautiful scenery, outstanding birdwatching and the opportunity to witness green turtle nesting along the park’s beaches between June and August.
